The annual awards acknowledge organisations for their exceptional achievement and advancement within the Global payments sector, and celebrate those who have worked tirelessly to build, establish and deploy successful programmes across the world.
Sureswipe’s mobile payment application, Sureswipe Move, is in the running for the award. Move, offers micro merchants easy access to accepting card payments anywhere at affordable rates.
It is estimated that more than 70% of South African retailers do not accept card payments and this figure is even higher in rural areas skyrocketing to 95%. With over 2.2 cards issued per economically active South African, there are only roughly 416 thousand acceptance points, making the current consumer problem one of acceptance points rather than cards in circulation.
“The biggest barrier to entry for independent retailers is high costs and a rigid application process full of red tape,” says MD of Sureswipe, Paul Kent. “Our mPOS solution allows easy card payment acceptance for independent retailers, both small and micro, at flexible and affordable rates based on their needs” says Kent.
Roughly a third of South Africans (34%) own a smartphone and the top third reason for this is because of the convenience of making and receiving payments.
Kent adds, “Since the commercialisation of Move in April 2015 we have experienced a 30% increase in monthly card machine sales growing our market of acceptance points across South Africa significantly, and these are active users.”
The awards acknowledge the Best Payment Regional Launch globally: which financial institutions, operators, NGO or solution provider has executed the best integration of a mobile money and/or digital payments services in their operating region in 2015.
“It is a real honor to be shortlisted, Sureswipe Move offering is seeing great traction in the market, and our main aim remains on growing the number of acceptance points across South Africa and beyond. Focusing on creating a wide distribution network we aim to harness opportunities for entrepreneurs in semi-rural towns across South Africa.”
Shortlisted organistations from across Africa include, Absa payment pebble, Bharti Airtel International Netherlands Mobile Money Transfer & the National bank of Kenya.
